Whole-home surge protection in Temple, TX

Why at the panel

One device, every circuit

Power strips only protect what is plugged into them. The expensive equipment in a home is usually hardwired.

Whole-home coverage

Installed at the electrical panel, where it can clamp a surge before it travels out to the rest of the house, including hardwired equipment that cannot plug into a strip.

80kA protection

We prefer to install the larger 80kA surge protectors in homes. More capacity means greater protection and a longer service life.

Equipment-specific protection

A dedicated surge protector on individual equipment, such as your HVAC system, working in combination with the whole-home unit. It never hurts to have more.

Quick install

Most installs take about an hour. It is an easy add when we are already there for a panel or generator job.

Thorough and professional. He communicated consistently throughout the entire process. From the moment I called, I got email and text notifications, appointment reminders, and I was able to ask questions. Chris installed 4 dedicated circuits in my garage and wired in a mini split. I can't recommend CWC Electric enough.

I had a handful of electrical chores I needed tackled. I reached out to CWC based on a neighbor's recommendation. Glad I did. Chris was awesome! Great, honest communication throughout the process. He provided a quote that gave a detailed description of the scope of work to be done. The work was done neatly and in a timely manner. He even cleaned up all of the drywall dust!

Common questions

Surge Protection: straight answers

Do I still need power strips?

They still help. Power strips only protect what is plugged into them. A whole-home unit at the panel covers every circuit, including hardwired equipment such as the AC, well pump, and oven. Using both gives you the best protection.

Will it stop a direct lightning strike?

Nothing can promise that. A whole-home surge protector is built for the far more common surges: nearby strikes, utility switching, and power returning after an outage.

Should I add a surge protector at my AC too?

It is a good idea. A dedicated surge protector at the HVAC system works in combination with the whole-home unit at the panel, so your most expensive equipment has two layers of protection. It never hurts to have more.

What size surge protector do you install?

We prefer the larger 80kA units for homes. The higher rating gives greater protection and lasts longer than smaller units.

How long does installation take?

About an hour in most homes. It is often paired with generator or panel work since we are already in the panel.

Do surge protectors wear out?

Yes, over time. A surge protector absorbs the hits, and eventually it reaches the end of its life. Most have an indicator light that shows when the unit needs to be replaced.
